A. M. (ADOLPHE MOURON) CASSANDRE. [Italian Posters], two lithographed posters, Circa 1935; Sizes vary, generally 29x24 inches. Coen & Co., Milan. Condition varies, generally B. Both posters are lightly varnished. Group of two images Cassandre produced for the ENIT (Italian Railway) during a summer's stay in Italy with his assistant Raymond Savignac in 1935. One image depicts "the arts" of Italy (Italian version), and the other depicts "the sports," or leisure activities available to tourists (English version). As a French artist working in Mussolini's Italy, Cassandre used a monogram instead of his signature to protect his identity. Printed in English, French, German and Italian, most copies bear additional text explaining that Italy is "The Ideal Land For All Sports." Cassandre / Biblioteque Nationale p. 116, Mouron 192 (var), Tourism 131 (var), Alps 10, Brown pl. 58.
